A control site is a unit of land that is separate from any active restoration site, but similar enough to your restoration site to be comparable, where the restoration method is not applied. The PPC uses control sites as way to prove additionality by comparing the change in tree cover and tree count in the areas with active intervention with similar areas without any intervention.
We ask for a lot of the same information about your control sites as we do for your regular sites, but you only need to report on these control sites every 6 months.
Here is the information needed to establish a control site on the IMP:
- CONTROL SITE NAME *
- SITE DESCRIPTION *
- SITE HISTORY *
- SITE ESTABLISHMENT DATE *
- EXPECTED END DATE*
- CONTROL SITE BOUNDARY*
- LAND TENURE TYPE*
- NUMBER OF EXISTING MATURE TREES
- SOIL CONDITON
- PRESENCE OF INVASIVES
- PHOTO AND VIDEOS
- ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION
*denotes a required field for control site creation. It is very important that you must provide an accurate boundary for this area.
To create a control site go to your project page, then scroll down until you see the “Project Sites” section on the right-hand side. Then click “Add New Site,” select “Add a New Control Site,” and follow the prompts until you submit the control site. You will report on control sites every 6 months.
