On July 9th 2024, we made an important update to TerraMatch to enable better polygon validation, storage and analysis on the platform. This article summarizes that change, how it affects users, and how to use the new feature.
Here we outline what this means for Priceless Planet Coalition users and answer some common questions related to this update.
1. Where will I find the polygons I have already submitted for my PPC project?
As a part of this update, we are adding all polygons that have been approved by our monitoring team onto TerraMatch. If you do not see your polygon, it may be because we haven’t been able to map it to a site on TerraMatch or it has not finished polygon QA. Please feel free to email info@terramatch.org if you have any questions.
2. How do I add new polygons to a site?
To create new polygons, you can upload your polygons directly on your site profile using the new map interface.

3. How do I interpret the status of my polygons?
Each polygon will be colored depending on its status. All polygons previously uploaded to TerraMatch or sent to the monitoring team will have the blue status (submitted). Polygons that have been uploaded to TerraMatch but not yet submitted for review will have a purple (draft) status. If the monitoring team requires more information about a polygon that has been submitted it will be orange, and if the polygon has been approved by the monitoring team it will have a green status. You can learn more about the new polygon statuses here.
4. How will I know if I need to update any of my polygons?
If any of your polygons have the orange status “Needs More Info” you will need to update the polygon. When your polygon’s status changes to “Needs More Info”, you should receive an email outlining the questions the monitoring team has about the polygon as well as clear instructions on how to update it.

5. When will I see monitoring data associated with my sites and project?
Getting polygons more integrated into the platform will enable us to deliver monitoring data more quickly right into TerraMatch. While most PPC projects already have basic baseline analysis complete, we plan to deliver baseline metrics to projects in TerraMatch by September 2024.
